Vice-Minister Darius Skusevičius meets with members of the National Diet of Japan
On 31 July, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius met with members of the Special Committee on the Okinawa and Northern Problems of the Legislative Bureau of the House of Representatives in the National Diet of Japan: Katsuhiko Yokomitsu, Akinori Eto and Kōichi Watanabe.
The meeting focused on the territorial problems of Europe and Japan, and topical issues of bilateral relations. Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister thanked the guests for the contribution of Japan to supporting the territorial integrity of Ukraine and Sakartvelo, and called for continued effort to assist these countries.
The interlocutors recalled the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's successful visit to Lithuania in January and discussed future high-level visits. The two sides agreed that it was important to further develop the legal framework that regulated the relationship. They also assessed progress in the negotiations on a working holiday scheme agreement, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding regarding educational and scientific cooperation.
Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister expressed his condolences over floods and landslides in Japan, and the record heat waves that had claimed many lives. Severe flooding and landslides hit Japan in July.
