On 22 November, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Egidijus Meilūnas met with the Minister of Defence of Moldova Anatolie Nosatîi, who is visiting Lithuania.

The meeting focused on solidarity with Ukraine, supporting the country's fight against Russian military aggression, the challenges posed by this aggression to the region's security, as well as ways to counter Russian hybrid warfare attacks that also target Moldova.

During the meeting, particular attention was paid to energy security issues, given Moldova's vulnerability due to its dependence on Russian natural gas and electricity supply chain disruption because of Russia's attempts to destroy the Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Meilūnas welcomed the actions of the Moldovan authorities to reduce the country's energy dependence on Russia, implement energy market reforms and improve integration into regional markets. The Foreign Vice-Minister noted that Lithuania was ready to share its experience in reducing energy dependence on Russia. "Having realised that energy independence is one of the important guarantors of sovereignty, Lithuania set an example by proving that it is possible to free oneself from dependence on energy sources of the neighbor with expansionary imperialist ambitions," Meilūnas said.

The Foreign Vice-Minister also stressed that Lithuania remained ready to provide comprehensive support for Moldova on its European integration path, including through reforms of the country's security sector, thus contributing consistently to strengthening the country's resilience to internal and external threats.
