At OSCE Ministerial Council, L.Linkevičius calls on Russia to end aggression against Ukraine

On 6 December, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius participated in the annual Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Ministerial Council in Milan, Italy.

The Ministers' political debates focused on challenges to European security, emerging from Russia's aggression against Ukraine - the annexation of Crimea, the militarization of the peninsula, and actions in the Azov Sea. The Ministers also highlighted the need to more quickly resolve the ongoing conflicts in Georgia, Moldova, and Nagorno-Karabakh.

"Rewriting rules based on international obligations is becoming commonplace," deplored Lithuania's Foreign Minister, when speaking about Russia's aggression against Ukraine. He called on Russia to abide by its OSCE commitments and to immediately end violations of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. L. Linkevičius also reiterated his call for the release of the seized Ukrainian vessels and their detained crews in the Azov Sea, and restoration of freedom of passage at the Kerch Strait.

Lithuania's Foreign Minister also drew attention to the fact that Russia had failed to fulfill its obligations under the ceasefire agreement with Georgia for 10 years. In the occupied territories of Georgia, human rights are continuously violated and the creeping annexation of these regions is taking place.
